Disability Support Programs

Our Support classes cater for students with moderate to high learning and support needs including students with : Intellectual disability, autism, sensory impairment.

The SLSO assist classroom teachers to address the educational needs of students with a disability and learning difficulty. Parents or caregivers have a vital role to play working in partnership with the support staff by  discussing and having an input in the planning for their child's needs.

The school principal, in consultation with the school's Learning Support Team, will assist you to find the right schooling option for your child, taking into account your choice, your child's specific additional learning needs and proximity to local specialist services.

Garden

At Blacktown North PS we consider gardening an essential part of learning. Each class has a designated garden time to plant fruit, vegetables and herbs for our community. Gardening is a great way to get the students active and learn how to be self-sufficient and eat healthy.

Studies show that gardening promotes physical health, mental health through relaxation and satisfaction, and better nutrition. Gardening can indeed feed the body, mind and spirit! And thats important for a sustainable society. By creating a space where we can reconnect with Nature, we can provide ourselves the means to heal our mind, body and spirit, and a means heal the planet also. When we grow gardens, we grow life, which we care for, nurture and partake in.

STEM - Robotics

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM is based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines in an interdisciplinary and applied approach rather than teach the four disciplines seperte. A goal os STEM education is to increase STEM Literacy - defined as the knowledge and understanding of scientific and mathematical concepts and processes required for persona decision making, participation in civic and cultural affairs, economic productivity for all students and preparing preparing students for the future.

Breakfast Club

Happy children are healthy children.

Every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday we provide our students with free breakfast. Children can come in as early as 8.15 for a healthy breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it breaks the overnight fasting period. It replenishes your supply of glucose to boost your energy levels and alertness, whilst also providing other essential nutrients required for good health.

SRC Programs

SRCs give students the skills to create, implement, lead, to learn from mistakes and to succeed. Most importantly, students are given the opportunity to represent the views of their peers, and to succeed in making those views heard. SRCs represent the views of a cross-section of students from different year levels, cultures, backgrounds and talent. A broad spectrum of views and values held by the student body enhances representatives understanding of issues that are important to young people. Through these experiences, students are given the opportunity to develop quality leadership skills.

Student Leadership

We promote leadership in our students from the early years. Through this, they develop the art of building relationships within teams, defining identities and achieving tasks effectively and successfully. Students also learn to identify and display effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Dynamic Bees

All students from K-6 participate in one of the below activities once a fortnight. Some activities may include: Filming, Painting, Cooking, Origami, Cultural Art, Boot Camp, Gardening, Knitting, Coding, Zumba, Board Games, Chess , Sensory Craft, Sketching, Hip-Hop, and Fun Outdoor Games

Debating

Blacktown North Public School participates in two debating competitions run by the DEC Arts Unit: the Premier's Debating Challenge, and the Pickles Shield Debating Competition. Both of these competitions give students the opportunity to hone their debating skills through inter-school debates. Students participate in training to learn the formal structure and elements of a debate: manner (how you present yourself), matter (the content of your arguments and rebuttal) and method (the rules of debating). Younger students have the chance to watch inter-school debates and we encourage all interested students to participate.

T ball

Our two Tee-Ball teams consisted of both boys and girls. The students have been attending training once a week to prepare for future PSSA competitions. Students have been improving their batting and catching skills and have made significant improvements over the year. The PSSA competitions are held in Terms 1 and 4 where students get the opportunity to compete with T-Ball teams from other school. This year, students participated in PSSA matches during Terms 1 and 4. Both teams did quite well in all matches and demonstrated great sportsmanship.

Choir

Blacktown North Public School continues to offer choir for students in Years 3 to 6. The program aims to facilitate a love of singing and music by allowing students to perform in a choral environment. In addition to school-based performances, students in Years 3 to 6 may be able to participate at performances in the community including singing at Westpoint and Carols at Age Care facilities as well as the Blacktown Music Festival.

3D printing

In 3D printing, students are exposed to unique opportunities to explore the fascinating world of design and technology while developing their creativity and problem-solving skills. They learn how to create their own 3D models using specialised software and then bring their ideas to life with our state-of-the-art 3D printers. This hands-on experience not only enhances their understanding of engineering and design principles but also encourages collaboration as they work on projects together.

Philippine Dance Troupe

Philippine Dance Troupe has been running as an extra-curricular activity at BNPS since 2018. Participation in the Philippine Dance Troupe has been a great opportunity for our students to learn about the Philippine culture through music and dance. Joining the Philippine Dance Troupe also helps students develop self-esteem, discipline, self-confidence, balance and better social skills. Participants have opportunity to perform in front of a big audience such as during Blacktown Festival of Performing Arts, Multicultural Day, Presentation Day and Education Week Performance at Westpoint.

Soccer

Our dedicated soccer players have been working hard to develop their skills, build teamwork, and foster a strong sense of sportsmanship throughout the season.

The soccer team practices regularly, focusing on fundamental skills such as passing, dribbling, and shooting, while also emphasising the importance of cooperation and communication on the field. In addition to honing their athletic abilities, the team engages in friendly matches with other schools, providing an opportunity for our students to showcase their talents and represent our school with pride.

Library Monitors

Library monitors at BNPS have the opportunity to assist in maintaining a welcoming an organised library environment and promoting a love for reading throughout our school community. It fosters a sense of pride in our school’s resources. We believe that involving students in the library's operations will enhance their learning experience and encourage a lifelong love of reading.

News Reporters

The news reporters group offers a fantastic platform for budding journalists to explore their passion for writing, storytelling, and media production.

As members of the team, students will have the chance to cover school events, interview fellow students and staff, and report on important happenings within our school community. They develop essential skills such as research, communication, and critical thinking while gaining hands-on experience in journalism and media.

Students work collaboratively to produce articles, videos, and podcasts, showcasing their creativity and unique perspectives. This program not only enhances their writing and reporting abilities but also encourages teamwork and leadership as they bring stories to life for the entire school community.

Taiko drumming

Taiko drumming offers a unique opportunity for our students to explore the rich cultural heritage of Japanese drumming while developing their rhythm and teamwork skills. In our Taiko Drumming sessions, students will learn various drumming techniques, including striking methods and traditional rhythms, all while working together to create powerful and captivating performances. This hands-on experience not only enhances musical abilities but also fosters discipline, focus, and a sense of community among participants. Through Taiko, students will discover the importance of collaboration and expression, as they perform in groups and share their love for music with their peers. No prior experience is necessary—just a passion for rhythm and a desire to learn!

Eco warrior

Eco warriors perform the following duties:

• Monito segregation of trash in the classroom

• Attend gardening duty with Mrs Sudario to transfer scrap fruits from class compost pail to the class compost buckets in the garden

• Bring and empty class compost pail during their class’s gardening period

• Transfer contents of organise, blue and yellow murfe bins in the classroom into the colour coded wheelie bins in the asphalt area.

• In charge of turning off AC and classroom lights when the whole class leaves the room

• In charge of turning off IWB monitors when the whole class leaves the room

Bollywood Dance

Bollywood dance is a fun and vibrant form of modern Indian dance. Students learn to appreciate their own dance and those of others. Our Senior Bollywood dance group are very committed and enthusiastic towards their dance lessons which takes place once a week where students learn steps to some simple Bollywood songs. Students performed during Education week at Westpoint, Blacktown as well as during Grandparents Day at school.
