Garden

At Blacktown North PS we consider gardening an essential part of learning. Each class has a designated garden time to plant fruit, vegetables, and herbs for our community. Gardening is a great way to get the kids active and learn how to live self-sufficient.

At Blacktown North PS we consider gardening an essential part of learning. Each class has a designated garden time to plant fruit, vegetables and herbs for our community. Gardening is a great way to get the students active and learn how to be self-sufficient and eat healthy.

Studies show that gardening promotes physical health, mental health through relaxation and satisfaction, and better nutrition. Gardening can indeed feed the body, mind and spirit! And thats important for a sustainable society. By creating a space where we can reconnect with Nature, we can provide ourselves the means to heal our mind, body and spirit, and a means heal the planet also. When we grow gardens, we grow life, which we care for, nurture and partake in.

Worm Farm

Worm farm 2020

A worm farm has many environmental benefits, including recycling food scraps, minimising food waste that goes to landfill and creating natural garden fertiliser. Worms create tunnels in our soil to enable water, air and nutrients to circulate keeping our earth healthy. Teaching our students the benefits of a worm farm and how to look after one, gives them a strong understanding of environmental care at an early age.

Counsellor/Speech Pathology

Our Student Counsellor is available every Monday/Friday who does an excellent job guiding our students. We also have a Speech Pathologist every Tuesday.

SRC Parent Volunteer Programs

SRCs give students the skills to create, implement, lead, to learn from mistakes and to succeed. Most importantly, students are given the opportunity to represent the views of their peers, and to succeed in making those views heard. SRCs represent the views of a cross-section of students from different year levels, cultures, backgrounds and talent. A broad spectrum of views and values held by the student body enhances representatives understanding of issues that are important to young people. Through these experiences, students are given the oppourtunity to develop quality leadership skills.

Promoting Student Leadership within our School

At BNPS we promote leadership in our students from the early years. Through this, they develop the art of building relationships within teams, defining identities and achieving tasks effectively and successfully. Students also learn to identify and display effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Later in the year, every Tuesday and Wednesday we hold a transition program. This program is designed to develop the necessary skills for students to be successful in kindergarten. If you wish your chid to attend this program, they must be enrolled at Blacktown North PS and have a interview with the Principal before acceptance.

Our school runs a Kiss and Drop Zone where students are dropped off every morning and picked up every afternoon. This has been put in place to ensure the safety of our students. Teachers and SLSO staff will be assisting at Kiss and Drop. All cars leaving the school car park must turn left. This will make the traffic move faster.

Promoting Hygiene by keeping a tidy Playground

A clean school is a happy school

Working with children to keep a tidy playground is an engaging way to teach young Australians about the responsible disposal of rubbish, resource recovery and the repercussions of rubbish dumped irresponsibly in the local environment. Teachers and students work together to keep a tidy asphalt area, grass area and garden area at the school to promote hygiene.
