Students appreciating books during silent reading

 

The purpose of Library lessons:

To foster a love of reading, and encourage at every step assisted and then independent reading for enjoyment and entertainment. Then later to transfer an understanding of the worth of information skills, encouraging their use and the gaining of proficiency for the betterment of student self-research. 

 

Kindergarten students are learning to predict the story of a book through picture walks and are also learning to recognise and decide on the genre of a book.

Stage one students (years 1 and 2) are perfecting their predictions of story outcomes and becoming even better at deciding a book's genre. they also do sentence and grammar practice.

Students working on their information skills

 

Stage two (years 3 and 4) students are perfecting their understanding of the information search be it for books or on the internet. They are developing an understanding of what facts are and also how opinions are used.

Year six are improving their internet skills

 

Stage 3 (years 5 and 6) are becoming Digital Citizens as they learn more about behaviour online and using the internet responsibly for their studies.
