Dear Parents / Caregivers,

Welcome back to Term 4, to all parents and students in KM.  

This term our classroom will be full of wonderful learning experiences and will be a positive environment for the students. I am looking forward to working in partnership with you to achieve the highest outcomes for your child.

I look forward to teaching your child and working together with you this year. I thank you in advance for the co-operation and support I know I'll receive to ensure a wonderful year of fun and learning for your child. Please feel free to come and discuss any concerns or queries with me at any time.

Listed below are some of the activities that KM will be participating in.

Monday: Fitness after lunch. Please ensure your child brings a hat and water bottle.

Tuesday: Library is from 9.45-10.40am with Mr Murphy. Please ensure your child brings a library bag on Tuesday.

Wednesday: Science and Technology is from 9.45-10.40am with Miss Seccombe.

Wednesday: Assemblies will be held fortnightly from 1:55-2:45pm, odd weeks. Parents are welcome to attend. Dynamic Bee Clubs will be held Wednesday afternoons in even weeks. Teachers will be presenting a wide range of activities for your child to choose from, such as Scouting, gardening, yoga and cartooning. Your child will be placed into a club for the semester.

Friday: K-2 Sport. In term 3 this will be from 12.15-1.15pm. Students will learn gross motor skills and team games. Term 4 will be dance fever in the hall. Please ensure your child comes to school in their sports uniform on Fridays.

Homework:  Homework and home readers will be handed out on Mondays, please return to school each Friday. Online learning programs- Mathletics (Maths) and Reading Eggs (English)- are used by all students to support their learning. You can access these programs at home as part of homework activities.

Crunch and Sip: We have Crunch and Sip each day at 9.45am. Please send some fresh fruit and/ or fresh vegetables and water for your child to enjoy.

Kiss and Drop: Each day all kindergarten students are to be picked up from the kiss and drop area outside the front office.

 

Term 4 topics

History/Geography: Celebrations

Students will explore personal, family and community celebrations; national days; Australia-specific commemorations and religious/cultural celebrations from around the world.

Science and Technology:  Weather in my World (with Miss Seccombe)

The way objects move depends on a variety of factors, including their size and shape.  Students will participate in a variety of hands on investigations about movement.

CAPA (Creative and Performing Arts): Visual Arts

Students will have the opportunity to create artworks in various mediums including drawing and sculpture.

PDHPE: Drug Education

Students will become aware of medicines and chemicals that may be stored around the home. Students explore what these may look like and discuss ways that they can be safely stored around the home.

Library: (with Mr Murphy) Introduction to the library.  Learning how to look after books and the rules for using the library and borrowing books.

Mathematics:

Students will be learning at their level about adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, halves and patterns as well 2D & 3D shapes, length, area and chance.

Students will be working in groups using hands-on concrete materials such as counters, dominoes, dice, rulers, playing cards in order to solve everyday maths problems.

English:

Reading:  Students read quality books each day as part of modelled reading. Students also participate in guided reading groups daily – they are taught at their own level with support staff assisting in the room at this time.

WritingStudents will be learning to write imaginative, informative and persuasive texts on familiar topics linked to quality books, Science and HSIE topics.

Speaking and listening:

This is completed throughout the day and linked to all learning areas.

Children are all allocated a news day, and are expected as part of their homework to prepare a topic talk as listed in the homework folder.
